About LPPM

Institute for Research and Community Services or Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LPPM) of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) that was established at the end of 2001 is a merger of ITB Research Institute established in 1959 with ITB Community Service Institute. This institution is a forum for academics to conduct research and community service. LPPM is under the coordination of the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation or Wakil Rektor Bidang Riset dan Inovasi (WRRI) starting from 2020. The establishment of LPPM is ITB’s strategy in an effort to realize the quality improvement and development of science, technology, arts, social and humanities, and business in universities, and their implementation in the community, and at the same time to accommodate the implementation of the Tri Dharma duties including education, research, and community service in harmony.

LPPM as a supporting work unit at ITB carries out the duty as a door to institutionally facilitate and coordinate research collaboration activities and community service in an effort to increase reciprocal synergies between the competencies of ITB academics and the community. LPPM-ITB cooperation in the field of research and community service in the form of training, mentoring, and consultation has been well established with various partners, including research institutions, government, industry, private sector, BUMN, and other relevant institutions from within the country and abroad. The existence of this collaboration is a manifestation of the high trust of the community as partners in the ability of LPPM-ITB.

LPPM-ITB cooperation in the field of research and community service in the form of research, empowerment, community training, and consultation has been well established with various partners of research institutions, government, industry, private sector, State-owned Enterprises or Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN), and community institutions from within and outside the country. The ongoing collaboration is a manifestation of the high trust of the community as partners in the capabilities of LPPM-ITB.

Vision and Mission

Vision to become a leading Research and Community Service Institution (LPPM), in an effort to bring Indonesian people to become a united, sovereign, and prosperous nation through research and development of science, technology, and art or Ilmu Pengetahuan, Teknologi, dan Seni (IPTEKS).

Mission to build access to research and community service funding sources through partnerships and to guide developments and changes made by the community through innovative, high quality, and responsive research and community service activities to global developments and local challenges.

The Purpose of LPPM
  1. Stimulating community development by increasing capacity and independence;
  2. Improving the quality of human resources through education and learning;
  3. Applying the results of ITB research in accordance with the community needs;
  4. Obtaining input for improving the quality of education, research and community service of ITB;
  5. Becoming a forum of expertise and position advantage for ITB in society.
The Role of LPPM-ITB
  1. as an institution that connects demand with supply, problems with solutions, community with ITB;

  2. as a research institution that conducts research for the benefit of scientific development and for the benefit of being directly applied to the community; and

  3. as an institution that develops and applies research results to the community.

LPPM-ITB Directions
  1. Creating an atmosphere or situation for research and development of science, technology, and art in ITB-BHMN towards an “entrepreneurial scholarly community”, with four directions of academic scholarship modules, including discovery, integration, application, and teaching.

  2. Creating an atmosphere or situation to realize the potential development of the community by encouraging, motivating, and realizing their potential to develop.

  3. Empowering the community in the form of concrete actions by providing and disseminating information and opportunities for the development and utilization of science, technology, and art.

  4. Maintaining the sustainability of the atmosphere/situation of ethical reciprocal interactions between elements of society.
